Employee Highlight: Patrina Moat

24 August | By

Meet Patrina Moat, one of our fantastic care workers at the Old Maltings.

Patrina attended a training session where emotion cards were explained. The cards are used in group work or an individual basis. The cards can be particularly helpful for service users with Dementia as retriggering memories keeps the brain active, which can also be an early prevention strategy. It can be very difficult being a carer or family member of someone suffering dementia. Conversations are repetitive and it can leave everyone feeling drained. The cards can be used to lighten conversations, trigger memory and help everyone connect with happier times or meaningful events from the past.

Within days of the training we witnessed Patrina bring out of her pocket some emotion cards. She had thought that they would be helpful with a new tenant and so went home and made them herself – initiative and care for an individual service user. Well done, Patrina!
