Hales Group are leading a major new innovation project in their Housing with Care schemes, including Ashby Meadows, Scunthorpe.
The organisation are at the leading edge of advanced technology to support their service users, with GenieConnect® robotics being installed to provide individuals with companionship and communication, improving the quality of life for vulnerable people with prompts and support, as well as a direct link to their care team and family members.
The device can be programmed to remind service users to take medication, drink or eat, or move more minimising risk and reducing the likelihood of hospital admission. In addition, the GenieConnect® companion can be pre-programmed with family member details to make video calls, and be included in social activities from the comfort of their own home.
The care team manage the delivery of remote care using a centralised portal and connect with the service user through video calling, creating a remote care service, not dissimilar to the virtual wards now in regular use throughout the NHS.
The increased use of technology-led care delivery will enable Hales Group to provide greater levels of remote care, allowing resources to be used more effectively for face to face care when it is most needed.
Pictured above is Lynn Smithson, a resident of Ashby Meadows, who states; “I like Genie because I can talk to her and ask her questions. She also reminds me to take my medication“. Lynn also said that the Genie reminds her to drink, and importantly, that she likes the company and doesn’t feel as lonely.
Hales Group recognise that advanced technology will not replace the important part care staff play in the delivery of frontline care services, however, the increased use of technology in health and care services play a vital role in ensuring care companies, such as Hales Group, are at the forefront of aids to prevent hospital admission and reduce the impact of staffing challenges, saving travel time and cost, allowing providers to deliver more care, attracting a new workforce and empowering more people to live independently whilst connected to their loved ones.
