Meet Carol, Care Assistant

Case Study

This is my story, how I decided I want to work in home care.

I have been working in home care for 16 years now. My mum passed away 16 years ago – she had Parkinson’s disease. As I live in Lincolnshire and my mum lived in Newcastle, I felt guilty all the time when I couldn’t get up to see her as often as I would have liked as I don’t drive. At the time, I had another job but I got made redundant. Just after that, my mum passed away.

I decided there and then that I wanted to work in care. I felt that caring for others in their own homes, that I was giving something back for not being there for my mum. I treat all of them with the respect that I would have shown to my mum if I could have been there.

I love my job. It’s so rewarding and the satisfaction I get from making someone’s day is fantastic.

If you were thinking about caring and have a good heart, this is the job for you. Hales Group is a lovely company to work for. The Manager and all the office staff are brilliant, especially with this COVID-19 situation. We get regular emails about the situation and if support is needed, you just have to ring up. Hales Group is a lovely company to work for. So, if you’re thinking about starting a career in care, I would say go for it you won’t regret it. I didn’t
